John McAfee was accused of being involved in the torture and murder of his neighbor in Belize. McAfee created McAfee Software, sold it to ___ and had almost unlimited funds at his disposal to avoid apprehension for questioning in Belize, and did. After escaping Belize in the night and travelling south to Guatemala, McAfee faked a heart attack in a Guatemala jail, and as he held dual British and American citizenship with passports for each, officials in Guatemala ultimately returned him to Miami. A Federal Court wrongful death lawsuit was filed in Orlando, Florida on behalf of the victim’s daughter and his Estate. Once he had arrived in Miami, McAfee and his armed entourage moved swiftly and frequently to different locations, sending out disinformation almost daily as to his location, in a sustained effort to avoid detection and service of process.

Surveilx was tasked with serving McAfee who had not been served personally in the United States for many years, and no one really knew where he was hiding. McAfee was by then travelling at all times surrounded by a group of armed security guards to protect him 24 hrs a day to make things more difficult.

Working on behalf of the Victim’s Estate, Surveilx traced McAfee to an apartment complex in Portland, Oregon where he was rumored to have been engaged in threats made against apartment management. The owner of Surveilx traveled to Portland only to find McAfee had suddenly abandoned his rental apartment with no forwarding address, finding local Court references to his security force and threats of violence . McAfee for now had disappeared with no trail and was no longer in the area.

Less than two months later Surveilx located McAfee and his protectors living in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A server was sent to the residence and all McAfee vehicles were present, as was an openly armed group protecting McAfee and visible from the street. Because of the armed security and visual display of automatic weapons in the small neighborhood, the Decedent’s Estate made the snap decision to utilize the armed services of the Colorado Office of the U.S. Marshall’s Service. By the time the armed team of U.S. Marshalls deployed to the scene on short notice, McAfee had vacated his residence there and apparently the state.

Surveilx traced McAfee and his security force to a yacht soon to be cruising on the waterway near Portland, Oregon. Surveilx also immediately located the boat owner, who had a prior legal relationship with McAfee, but who steadfastly refused to give up the boats destination or other information. The anticipated yacht path would take it to a port in Canada.

At the Estate’s request, Surveilx arranged a conversation between the vessel owner, an attorney for McAfee and with the decedent’s Estate attorney. McAfee became aware from the conference call which by plan intentionally disclosed who it was that had been searching for him with the Federal Court suit papers with regard to the Belize torture and death case. McAfee thereafter, one day, sent an email in response to a random Surveilx inquiry, stating he was currently in Canada. Clearly enjoying the chase, with incredible resources at hand, McAfee then called Surveilx’s owner and gave him another bogus address which was promptly identified as being coordinates in the middle of the Montreal River, so the chase continued. Rumors of McAfee’s live appearances throughout Canada continued. McAfee also suggested a new place to serve him, stating that he was currently living and available to be found in Bangkok, Thailand; again a quick identification of the offered address and continuing intelligence product by Surveilx showed it to be just another fake address.

Several months later in a random internet search for information in the middle of the night, Surveilx determined that McAfee was going to be a surprise keynote speaker at a ITech convention in Los Angeles, the following day, in a different time zone from Florida. Surveilx secured new service documents in Orlando Federal Court early the following morning, placed them on a scheduled flight to Los Angeles, arranged for a local former FBI agent to serve the suit papers, and obtained entrance to the convention. Surveilx as well, purchased event credentials for $750 for the process server for entry to attend McAfee’s keynote address in a local hotel; this was all done by Surveilx in a 24 hour period.

Surveilx secured valid Federal service of process on John McAfee at the Los Angeles event after he completed his anticipated keynote address to the internet technology crowd by asking for McAfee’s autograph, on suit papers! Once realizing he had been validly served with the Wrongful Death suit papers, at McAfee’s orders, the Surveilx professional was chased out of the convention by McAfee guards and escaped. This was teamwork literally across the nation and at its best by Surveilx.
